Device and dose must answer a clinical question

Photobiomodulation uses non-ionising light delivered with controlled parameters. At IMG Clinic, the LaserPen permits precise targeting, while the HILT system can scan a broader region according to tissue, depth and objective.

Laser is not presented as a universal solution. Its relevance depends on the indication, wavelength, delivered energy, treatment area, phase of the problem and the other elements of rehabilitation.

Any symptomatic change should be connected to function. Load management, movement, strength and appropriate advice remain necessary when they determine recovery.

02 · IMG CLINICAL REASONING

What is checked before application

The painful region, intended tissue target and medical context determine whether laser is reasonable.

01

Clinical target

Relate symptoms, examination and, when useful, ultrasound to the tissue being considered.

02

Application mode

Choose LaserPen targeting or HILT scanning according to area, depth and objective.

03

Safety

Screen the eyes, sensation, photosensitising medicines, pregnancy, suspicious lesions and other contraindications.

04

Functional plan

Integrate the modality with relevant active or manual progression rather than use it in isolation.

03 · CLINICAL PATHWAY

How an application proceeds

Protection, dose and reassessment are integral to treatment.

01

Assess

Define the target, objective and a measurable starting point.

02

Protect

Use appropriate eye protection and secure the treatment area.

03

Dose

Apply suitable parameters with the selected device.

04

Reassess

Observe tolerance, clinical response and functional progression.

04 · INDICATIONS

Situations where it may be discussed

  • Selected muscle or tendon pain after assessment
  • Symptom support within selected rehabilitation
  • Tissue recovery alongside appropriate progression
  • Regions requiring precise targeting or controlled scanning

05 · FAQ

Therapeutic laser questions

01Is treatment painful?

It is generally well tolerated. Sensation depends on the device and parameters; any unusual response should be reported immediately.

02What is the difference between LaserPen and HILT?

LaserPen targets selected areas; the HILT system can scan a broader region. The choice depends on examination and objective.

03Does laser replace exercise?

Not when recovery requires progressive strength, control or loading. It then remains an adjunctive modality.

04How many sessions are needed?

The number cannot be set automatically. It depends on indication, dose, response and the overall plan.
