Medical massage is more than relaxation massage

At IMG Clinic, medical massage begins with your history, symptom distribution, restricted movements and functional goals. Palpation is interpreted alongside active, resisted and joint tests to identify findings that may be clinically modifiable.

Treatment may combine progressive pressure, tissue mobilisation, myofascial work, segment-reflex techniques and post-isometric relaxation. Depth and duration are adapted to sensitivity, medical context and observed response.

Immediate relief can matter, but it is not the only outcome. Mobility, sleep, load tolerance and return to activity are reassessed before the next step is chosen.

02 · IMG CLINICAL REASONING

What is assessed before treatment

A tender area may be the principal driver, a compensation or only one part of a broader presentation.

01

History and progression

Onset, loading, injury, work, sport, sleep and treatments already tried.

02

Movement and function

Useful range, strength, endurance and activities that reproduce or ease symptoms.

03

Tissues and neurosegments

Muscle, fascia, periosteum and segmental relationships that may sustain hypertonicity.

04

Safety

Anticoagulants, tissue fragility, infection, recent trauma and other factors that may change the plan.

03 · CLINICAL PATHWAY

A session built as a clinical sequence

The exact combination follows the examination; every modality is not required.

01

Assess

Establish a clinical starting point and a measurable goal.

02

Treat

Use pressure and techniques appropriate to tissue tolerance.

03

Integrate

Add mobility, post-isometric relaxation or exercise when it supports function.

04

Reassess

Compare pain, movement and activity before deciding progression.

04 · INDICATIONS

Presentations commonly discussed

  • Muscle hypertonicity and myofascial pain
  • Selected neck or low-back stiffness
  • Work-related or sporting overload
  • Recovery after trauma, with medical coordination when needed

05 · FAQ

Medical massage questions

01Does treatment need to hurt?

No. A region may feel tender, but intensity is adjusted continuously. Strong pain is not a treatment objective.

02How many sessions will I need?

That depends on duration, function, associated factors and early response. The plan is reassessed rather than set automatically.

03Can I bring imaging reports?

Yes. Relevant reports can inform the examination, without assuming an image alone explains every symptom.

04Will complementary insurance reimburse it?

Some services may be covered depending on your contract and insurer. Obtain written confirmation before the consultation.
